DORIS JEAN MILOTTA

Posted On June 19th, 2010 -

DORIS JEAN MILOTTA
May 2, 1920- June 10, 2010

Doris Jean Milotta was born on May 2, 1920 in Erie, Pennsylvania. She was the only child of Frederick Snow, a fireman, and Edith Snow, a homemaker. As a child she painted murals on the walls of her basement playroom, an indication of future artistic talent.

She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University class of 1942 where she majored in Art. While still a college student, Doris had a painting accepted in a national exhibit in the Gallery of American Art of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Doris’s design, the Hawaiian Cross, was chosen as the logo for the cover of the sesquicenntial edition of the Hawaiian language hymnal Na Himeni Haipule Hawaii. The cross design of sugar cane and pineapple depicts the healing and reconciliation in Christ.

She is survived by: Col. David E. Milotta, her loving husband of sixty-eight years, two children, the Rev. Dr. David S. (and Sandy) Milotta, and Mrs. Gaye Ann (and Milton) Tate, and two grandchildren, David Makana Milotta and Lorin Na’lei Milotta.

Her memorial service will be held Saturday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 45-725 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe.

We wish to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Carrie Coe and the caring team at Straub Hospital as well as the Saint Francis Hospice program for their sensitive and professional ministries.

Donations in memory of Doris Milotta may be given to St. Francis Hospice or Windward Artist Guild. Aloha attire is requested. No flowers.
