Gene M. Leupp, 78, of Honolulu, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, died under hospice care at his home after a year-long battle with brain cancer. He was born in Mayville, North Dakota. He is survived by wife Ruth; sons David, Gary, and Jon; sisters Rosemary and Carol; brothers Frank and Henry; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

During his military service Gene was awarded the Airman's Medal, the highest award for bravery in a non-combat situation, for saving numerous lives during a massive hotel fire in Bangkok, Thailand. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Gene was active in The TUG computer club, serving most recently as Vice President. Gene, along with Ruth was also a dedicated and active member of the Morning Music Club of Honolulu for many years.
