VIOLET A. KU’ULEI KAHALE BOURKE

On July 11, 2010 at the age of 90, our heavenly Father was enriched with another “Angel,” Violet Ku’ulei Kahale Bourke of Honolulu who passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Waianae.

Violet was born on October 13, 1919 in Honolulu, Hawai’i. She loved the ocean, swimming and traveling. A warm, gracious and generous mother, nurturing TuTu, and loving aunt whose love is a celebration of “Aloha” in our hearts.

She is survived by daughter, Marlene Bourke-Faustina (Manuel); son, Patrick (Michal) of New York; other survivors include granddaughters, Dora Leilani Anderson (Clarence) of Texas, Mari Garzon (Jaime) of New York, Noelani Bourke of New York; grandson, Francis Bourke of New York,; step-grandsons, Aaron Faustina (Kalani) and Christian (Carol) of Honolulu; brother, Cyril Kahale, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was loved and will be missed.

Private services held. Scattering of ashes at a later date. “Each day is a gift to celebrate.”

THELMA TACHERA

On Friday, June 25, 2010, before drawing her final breath at 6:30 p.m. under the Hoku moon, Thelma Leina’ala Tachera of Kaneohe, 81, shed a single farewell tear as she joined her ancestors whom had been awaiting her arrival.

A sales representative at McInerny for over 20 years, Thelma retired then decided to go back to work as a housekeeper. Her loving nature and friendly ways led her to become family to many for whom she worked. Till her final day, many of those same families visited often. Thelma was an avid animal lover, Sugar, her dog and companion for many years was her pride and joy.

She chose to travel often by bus which allowed her to make many lifelong friends and acquaintances. Her favorite past time, was to sit at Ala Moana shopping center with many of her friends to chat and laugh the day away. Thelma will be remembered always as a woman of great strength, friendliness, compassion and genuine love.

Family and friends visited throughout the day to give Thelma their love and aloha, by her side was her son, Clifford; granddaughter, Mokihana; grandson, Chance and coffee partner, Ann. With her in her final moment was her caregiver and daughter in-law, Noelani. Sending their love from afar was her daughter, Kapi’olani; her sister, Ulu and brother Erwin. Her grandchildren, Napua Cervantes, Joey and Nohea Tachera, Chiya Hoapili, Keawe Viloria as well as her great grandchildren, Domonique, Iliana and 8 others helped lift her from afar.

She is at peace and suffers no more. An honoring of her life will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 at Oahu Cemetery Chapel from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by burial at Punchbowl at 1:00 p.m. Casual attire.
