DICK TADAO KIMURA

DICK TADAO KIMURA

Dick Tadao Kimura, 88, passed away on July 23, 2010 leaving his wife Edna T. (Nishikawa of The Kailua Fruit Stand family), daughters Sharon and Sandra, sister Harriet C. Tanji, sister-in-law, Margaret M. Kimura and many nieces & nephews.
Tadao was born in Kahana Valley. His younger years were spent working on the family produce farms at the Mokapu Peninsula (KMCAS) and today’s Pohakupu Subdivision.
As a young man he was instrumental in forming the farmers’ cooperative that became today’s Koolau Farmers. Thereafter he was a stevedore until kidney injury after a 35-foot fall, then a salesman with the Fukunaga (Servco) family. His ultimate skills were in construction, first as a mason with the Associated Masons, and then as a form to finish carpenter. He set brick at the Nuuanu Soto Mission, was involved in the building of several Seventh-day Adventist churches and schools, the Haiku Plantation home of its Developer, and finish work for a high rise apartment building on Kinau. As a licensed general contractor, he built custom homes in Maunawili Estates, Olomana Subdivision Rim, Lanikai, Kuliouou, including the Hekili Business Center across Kailua’s Big City Diner.
He had “HEART” and will be fondly remembered for his love and care of his family and many others, candid counsel, exceptional skills and helpful generosity to many people including those who were welcomed to stay in his home. His rascalness and kindness balanced with his seriousness about quality work and where one’s heart is spiritually. He leaves with a special appreciation to Mr. Chong King Ma & Mrs. Wai Ma, owners of the retired Kailua Four Star Chop Suey Restaurant for their many years of caring visits and friendship, and to Mark Chung, MD, who made a healthful difference to his active life.
Dick believed that friends and family should visit and interact when alive to enjoy each other; therefore, he chose not to have a funeral service.
