PHYLLIS JANE ELDRIDGE WILLIAMS

Phyllis Jane Eldridge Williams, 75, of Honolulu, died on July 29, 2010 at Tripler Army Medical Center. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, she was the daughter of Lloyd Eldridge and Marie Mae LeBlanc Eldridge of Abbeville, Louisiana. She attended the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute which is now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She married John M. Williams on May 7, 1955 in Abbeville and moved to Washington, DC. After a brief stay in Tokyo, Japan, they moved to Honolulu in 1957. She joined the DAR in 1963 in Louisiana. After her membership transfer to Hawaii in 1965, she immediately became involved in her state and local chapters and remained active in both areas, in addition to her national duties. Mrs. Williams served as Vice President General of the National Society DAR for three years, having been elected to her position at the 108th Continental Congress, April 1999. She served as State Regent 1995 – 1998, 1977 – 1980, and was named Honorary State Regent for Life in 1980. Her major accomplishments under her leadership include the purchase of six box seats in Constitution Hall; she designed the State Centennial Pin and oversaw a complete update and revision of the State by-laws. Phyllis was also a member of the Daughters of Colonial Wars, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Hawaii, Society of Military Widows, and Retired Military Officers Association; and she was an avid bridge player. Preceded in death by her husband John M. Williams. Survived by daughter, Kathleen Lorance, and husband Mark; son, Timothy P. Williams; and 2 grandsons, Eric and Baron Lorance. Memorial visitation 11 a.m. Monday, August 9 at Borthwick Mortuary, Service 12 p.m., Committal service 2 p.m. National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Aloha attire.
