DENNIS F. BAMFORD

BAMFORD, DENNIS F., 63, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010. He was loved by his wife Janet J., who were married on 8/1/81 in Depew, NY; and his parents-in-law, Rita C. and William J. Jarmuz (deceased). He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Porter (Bridgeport CT), and his brother, Alan (Pawtucket, RI).

A Memorial Mass will be held on Sat. 8/14/2010 at St. Jude RC Church, 92-445 Makakilo Dr, Makakilo, HI. Visitation is from 9:45-10:45 am; Eulogies welcome until 10:55 am; Mass begins at 11:00 am.

In addition, on Tuesday, 8/17/10, full military honors for Dennis will be presented at Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific at 2:00 pm. All friends and Old Soldiers are welcome to attend.

Dennis was born on 8/10/46 in Providence, RI, and spent his youth in Warwick, RI. He was drafted in 1967, on his 21st birthday, and retired from the Army on 9/1/1992. He spent two years in combat during the Vietnam War. His numerous medals and citations include a Bronze Star, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and an Army Presidential Unit Citation.

He passed away exactly one month before his 64th birthday.

Grad of `Iolani class 50 and UH 54, he served in the Army (three Viet Nam tours), retired as LTC from the Pentagon. Opened Old Mill Greenery, Millersville, MD, sold the business and became a permanent substitute teacher at George Fox Middle School, Pasadena, MD. Les was also known as Uncle Les Lekili at the halau hula he supported with his wife, Kas in MD and CO and as Dad Les by `Ilima Hula Studio, Waimanalo. Les is survived by wife Kas; his sister Shirley Miyashiro, Honolulu; his three children: Marliese Dayen, CA; Brian (Chrissy), NC; Eric (Debbie), SC; and six loving grandchildren – Brett and Scott Dayen, Drew, Claire, Paula and Dustin Nakamura.
