BARBARA ANN HOUSTON CULP
BARBARA ANN HOUSTON CULP BARBARA ANN HOUSTON CULP was born on August 25, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland and died on July 12, 2010 in Oxford, North Carolina at the age of 75. She first arrived in Honolulu in 1950 when her Dad was stationed at Hickam AFB. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952. She was Honorary Captain for the Sponsors of Company A of the ROTC; was on the tennis team for two years; Home Room President in '51. She attended the University of Hawaii in 1953. While at the U of H, she was elected Miss Caucasian in the Ka Palapala beauty pageant. She transferred to the University of Maryland when her Dad was reassigned and graduated in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. She returned to Honolulu in 1974 and worked for the Honolulu Parks and Recreation and the YMCA until suffering a crippling stroke in 1996. She is survived by three sons: John, Michael and Richard Culp; seven grandchildren; and two sisters: Nancy Houston Fowler of San Antonio, TX. and Betsy Houston Preece of Aurora, CO. Barbara was a beautiful, free spirited woman whose heart belonged to Hawaii. ALOHA dear sister, you are free at last.
