Kahu Sam Saffery Jr., 99, of Honolulu, a retired Parks and Recreation employee and Liliuokalani Protestant Church kahu, died at home. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by sons Samuel "Buddy" Saffery III and Jon "Toby" Macy-Saffery; hanai daughter Ruth L. Benoit; brothers Milton Saffery and William Sanford; sisters Sarah Bell, Kuualoha Callanan, Georgia Kay, Kuulei McClung and Lehua Nuuhiwa; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandchild.
