JOSEPH KENNETH CONANT
JOSEPH "JOE" KENNETH CONANT Joseph "Joe" Kenneth Conant, 80, of Mililani, Hawaii passed away on August 1, 2010. He was born on October 3, 1929 in Natchitoches, Louisiana and attended schools in Louisiana and Washington, D.C. His higher educational achievements included two Bachelor Degrees and a Master of Arts Degree. He enjoyed a very successful career in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, receiving The Legion of Merit and The Army Commendation Medal, both with Oak Leaf Clusters. Upon retiring from the Military, Joe started a career with the local government. He served in various positions with the Hawaii Housing Authority. In 1981, former Mayor Eileen Anderson appointed him Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development. He later became the Executive Director of the Housing Finance and Development Corporation with former Governor John D. Waihee, III. He was involved with the creation of master planned communities in Kapolei, Oahu; Lahaina, Maui; and Kealakehe, Hawaii. He retired from his second career in 1994. Joe was a member of St. John Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church in Mililani, as well as, a member of the Mililani Lions Club. He was also involved with Ho`ala School in Wahiawa as the Site and Building Committee Chairperson and remained active in the Democratic Party of Hawaii. Joe is survived by Dolores, his wife of fifty-seven years; Children, Lisa (Glenn), Karen (David), Sharon (Earl), Brian (Myra) and Yvette (Wendall); Grandchildren, Janeece (Jason), Ian, Brandon, Zachary (Ashley), Mykah, Heppy (dec.), Troy, Kylin, Zane, and Zoe; Great-Grandchildren, Dana, Jacob, Blake, and Jesse; Sisters, Alice, Theresa, Cecilia, and Elouise; Brother, James and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. "Honey," "Dad," "Grandpa Joe," "Joe,"- we are all better people for having had you in our lives. You will be missed dearly! Memorial Service on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Mililani Memorial Park and Mortuary, Mauka Chapel. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at St. John Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church in Mililani at 9:30 a.m. Army Honor Guard ceremony to follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at 11:30 a.m. Burial Service 1:00 p.m. at Mililani Memorial Park and Mortuary.
