Kenneth Herbert “Ken” Dowd, 85 of Kailua died in St. Francis Hopice West. He was born in San Diego, CA. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara L.; son, Steven; daughter, Catherine Harrelson; grandchildren, Sheila, Jennifer, Nicole, and Kenneth; and three great-grand children. 1982, he retired as the Field Office Supevisor of NAVSEACENPAC at Pearl Harbor. He was Past Master and 60-year member of Francis Drake Lodge, F.&A.M., South San Francisco, CA. He was an advisor to Windward Chapter of De Molay and Bethel 3, I.O.J.D., Kailua. He was a Senior Member of Mid Pacific Country Club. No services were held. Scattering of ashes will be at a future date. Donations to American Cancer Society, 2370B Nuuanu Av. From Waialua, HI, Evie ended her courageous battle against cancer on August 18th @ Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach, CA, with family by her side.

Born in 1945 to Vicente and Maria de los Santos, she is survived by: her loving husband, Fred; her two sons and 4 grandchildren; brothers, John Sr., Henry (Pepsy) and Ben (Mona); and sisters, Carmen (Steve), Gloria (Joe) and Shirley (Robert).

Evie treated and loved everyone like her family. She will be greatly missed by many.

The family will be hosting two church memorials: the primary service will be held on September 25th @ 1PM @ the Centenary United Methodist Church, Los Angeles; and a service on September 4th @ 11AM @ the Waialua United Church of Christ (Oahu).

DR. ARTHUR S. KUBO

Dr. Arthur S. Kubo (Age 73) son of Earl T. and Tamiye I. Kubo passed away on Thursday, August 5,2010 at his residence in Fairfax, Virginia. He is survived by his wife Catherine Pauls Kubo; sister Patricia (Byron) Park of Aiea, Hawaii; children Traci (George) Kubo-Carrera of Leesburg, Virginia, Kim Kubo (Scott Bland) and Trent (Jim) Daniel of Oviedo, Florida, and Torao Kubo (Jim French) of Arlington, Virginia; eight grand children and one great grandchild.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and a graduate of University High Laboratory School, Dr. Kubo was appointed to and graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, New York. His US Army Engineer service record includes an advisory and two combat tours in Viet Nam, command of a Nuclear Power Plant in Fort Greely Alaska, Associate Professor for Nuclear Engineering at the US Military Academy, and Division Chief at the Defense Nuclear Agency. Dr. Kubo earned his PhD in Nuclear Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and served on the Secretary of Energy’s Blue Ribbon Panel to review the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant program, and a congressionally-mandated committee to assess Bikini Atoll Rehabilitation. After retiring from the Army, Dr. Kubo went on to an executive career at BDM International, and then TRW.

Funeral Service and burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 9:00AM. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Capitol Hospice, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, Virginia.

JOHN SOUSA

John Sousa was a loving man and a veteran. We are saddened to announce his passing on July 18, 2010. His son George, daughter Laurie and husband Mike and grandchildren Gianni and Camryn survive him. His sister Mary and niece Sasha also love and miss him.

He served as a Paratrooper and medic with the 101st Screaming Eagles Airborne Division. He loved Hawaii and was proud of his Portuguese roots. He was Clinical Director for I.H.S. Hawaii, specializing in support services for Veterans, Homeless, and displaced Women and Children. It was more than a job. It was a way of life giving to others.

John’s was a published poet, MLS member, and world traveler of different cultures. He was a man who made a difference. We love you J.B. (Johnny Boy) and will never forget you.
