HELEN ETSUKO (TASHIRO) YAMASAKI

76, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 18th, exhausted from her battle with Alzheimer’s. She was also a breast cancer survivor. Born in Kaapahu, she graduated from Honokaa High and Margaret Dietz Commercial School before moving to California to marry. Helen was a retired secretary, but was active at the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church in Union City and served as a Dharma School Teacher for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Tahoe, with her husband and having dinners with family and close friends.

Helen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Mas, and her children; Lauren, Kyle and his wife Betty and 3 grandchildren. She’s also survived by her sisters; Florence Wasai, Kathy Hamai, Ruby Nagao, brothers; Gary and Dennis Tashiro plus many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen spent the final 6 months of her life at Fremont Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care. A memorial service will be held at Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church in Union City on Saturday, September 4, 3PM.
