Emily Overesch Castle, 84, died at home in Honolulu on September 3, 2010. She was born in Paris to Admiral and Mrs. Harvey E. Overesch.

She is survived by son, James Christian Castle, Jr., his wife Cyr-Ann, grandchildren Chad (Glenna) Castle, Farrah (Josh) Rees and five great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Castle was the founding donor for the Hawaii Cord Blood Bank at Kapiolani Hospital.

Family services have been held.

ISHIKAWA, SUSIE SHIZUKO (HIGA)

Age 83, died of complications following respiratory failure on Thursday, September 16, 2010. She was born on July 10, 1927 in Kahaluu, HI. to Kamezo and Kana Higa, both deceased. Sue was a devoted mother, faithful and hard working wife.

After graduation from Benjamin Parker High, she attended nursing school at The Independence Sanitarium and Hospital, located in Independence, Missouri. She earn-ed her certification as an RN and served many years in various capacities with hospitals, health care facilities, and with the State of Hawaii, Department of Health where she retired in 1982. She was an ordained minister for the Community of Christ church and was a passionate advocate for the gospel of Jesus Christ. As an ‘Elder’ of the church, she devoted much time ministering to people. Love of family, music, and education were important to her and she was proud of her Okinawan heritage.

Sue married Walter S. Ishikawa, her husband of 57 years and together, they raised four children in a loving, Christian home. She is survived by her brother, Randy Yeitoku Higa; husband, Walter Ishikawa; sons Rex S. Ishikawa (wife Kathryn), Cyrus S. Ishikawa, John S. Ishikawa (wife Lori), as well as daughter Fay S. (Ishikawa) Van Buskirk (husband Allen). Addi-tionally 9 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter, as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She is preceded in death by sisters Yoshiko Oshiro, Haruko Shinsato, Betty Matsuko Tokuhara, Lillian Toshiko Arakawa, and brothers Toshio, Thomas Taro, Alan Yeisuke, Edward Yeikichi, Lester Yeiichi, and Martin Higa, as well as grandson, Jarom K. Ishikawa.

The family thanks the staff at Castle Medical Center, as well as those who will help them remember their kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and auntie.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 11:00 A.M. at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, 30 N Kukui Street in Honolulu, with a meal to follow. Family visitation starts at 10:00 AM. A private graveside service will be held at Diamond Head Cemetery on Monday, October 11, 2010.

of Portland, Oregon died on September 20 at the age of 85. Originally from ‘Ewa, Hawai’i, Richard served in the United States Marine Corps, was a graduate of Stanford University, and retired as administrator of the Honolulu offices of Del Monte Corporation.

Richard is survived by Gail Keppeler, his wife of 61 years; children Paul Keppeler and wife Maggie of Beaverton, Oregon; Lisa Keppeler of Coopersburg, Pennsyl-vania; Heidi Schroeder and husband Fred of Browns Valley, California; and grandchildren Vaughn and Emma Rennie of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania.

Richard loved music and the outdoors, and was known for his wit and playful spirit. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Janet (Jan Suda) Mizuuchi, 61, passed away on September 16, 2010 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Kauai. She graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1976.

Jan was an independent outside sales representative and managed her own rental property.

Jan was vibrant, “sassy” and very caring of others. She studied many alternative health care options because she wanted to help heal other people. She would not hesitate to drop everything in order to help a friend or family member. Despite her love for Honolulu, she wholeheartedly supported Gary’s career choices which led them to spend 7 years in Hilo and 5 years on Kauai. She was an avid student of life. She was an enthusiastic reader of spiritual and self-improvement books. She was committed to improving her mind and spirit. She possessed a fiery zest for life. Her artistic and creative sensibilities were well known among her friends.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Gary, a stepson, Jason Mizuuchi, a stepdaughter, Jill Hunziker (Zack), 4 grandchildren, Jaycie Mizuuchi, Jack Hunziker, Mandarin Hunziker and Zaylee Hunziker, a niece, Yuri Lorelei Young (Warrent), 2 grandnephews, Christopher Sugimoto and Sean Sugimoto, her sister-in-law, Floris Mizuuchi, and brother-in-law, Winters Mizuuchi (Dawn).

81, of Kapaa, Kauai, died peacefully early Thursday morning, September 23, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 9, 1929. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and attained the rank of Lieutenant JG. He was a pilot and flew PBY Catalina flying boats. While stationed in Manila in 1950, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for individual heroism. He attended Dickenson College, and is a graduate of the University of Hawaii where he earned a degree in business and accounting. After graduating in 1957, he worked for Honolulu Iron Works.

In 1961 Robert was hired as Assistant Office Manager for Lihue Plantation. He retired from the plantation in 1986 as Comptroller. He then started his own accounting firm in Kapaa which he ran until he retired.

Robert served on a number of boards and volunteered his time in many other ways during his lifetime. He was especially fond of the scouting program. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a volunteer scoutmaster for many years on Oahu. He was very active with his sons in the local agricultural 4-H program, raising cattle and other animals for home and market. He was also a member of All Saints Church in Kapaa.

He met his wife Mary Day in 1951, and they were married for 58 years. He is survived my his wife Mary; son and daughter-in-law Colin and Nancy Wilson; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Katrina Wilson; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Susan Wilson; seven grandchildren, Christen, Cassie, Jessica, Alana, Sean, Luke and Chloe; sister Nancy Sobel; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 2010 at All Saints Church in Kapaa. Burial will be held at Nuuanu Cemetery on Oahu at a later date.
