VIOLET LEE MAUNU
Violet Tai Kyau Maunu, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Friday, September 24th.
Violet, second eldest of 10 children, married Solomon Keahukapu Maunu. Children: Marilyn (Michael) Castro, Carolyn Haunani (Rick) Hendrix, Puanani (Leonard Johnson) Maunu, Melvin (Suzanne) Maunu; grandchildren: Kalani (Lindsay) Castro, Kanoe (Tagiilima) Apelu, Christopher Nainoa & Leland Ikaika Castro, Hollan & Kate Hendrix; great-grandchildren: Mikayla & Marcus Apelu.
A teacher's aide at Lincoln & Kalakaua Schools, and a member of American Legion Kau-Tom Post, Lion's Club, Kawaiahao Church. Known in Papakolea as "Mrs. Maunu" to many of the children she taught, she was most known for encouraging everyone to be their best and to follow their dreams. Her legacy will be her positive attitude and generous spirit of giving.
Services Thursday, October 7, Borthwick Mortuary. Visitation 9am-1pm, Memorial Service at 10:30am. Burial Kaneohe Veterans Cemetery 2pm.
