BETTY L. GORDON

Betty L. Gordon, who lived in Hawaii for 34 years before retiring to Arizona, died Sept. 24 in Sun City West. She was 83.

She was born in Chicago, IL. on March 9, 1927. Betty was a graduate of Cornell College in Iowa and received a master’s degree from Northwestern University. She moved to Hawaii in January 1956 to become a speech instructor at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. There she met her future husband, Morton, and they were married before the year was done.

Betty had three children and raised them in Kailua, where she lived for 30 years. She was mostly a homemaker, but also was a substitute school teacher and, after her husband died in 1977, became a bookkeeper. She was an avid golfer, who played all over Oahu and was a member of Moanalua Golf Club. Twice, she shot a hole-in-one.

Betty Gordon is survived by sons, Mike (Suzanne) of Hawaii Kai, David of Boise, Idaho; daughter Beth (Ron) Hayes of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held on the Mainland.
