Age 84, of Kapolei, Hawaii, passed away November 16, 2010 in Kapolei. Born October 24, 1926 in Aiea, Hawaii. Ira retired as a heavy duty mechanic from Barbers Point. He was a member of various golf clubs.

He is survived by wife, Dolores Byrd; sons, Ira C. (Charlene) Byrd, Jr. of NV, Anthony Byrd, Rick (Kim) Byrd; daughters, Catheleen (Daniel) Carne of MI, Charlene (Albert) Dela Cruz; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews.

Visitation 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (December 1) at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel; Funeral Service 11:30 a.m. Burial 12:30 p.m. at Mililani Memorial Park. Casual Attire. Flowers Welcome.

DR. SARAH SHERRICK FAILING GRONNA

July 14, 1956 – Nov.12, 2010. Born in Los Angeles, CA, grew up in Santa Barbara, CA.. Earned BA Duke University 1979, teaching credential U.C. Santa Barbara 1990. Moved to Hawai’i in 1991 became a V.P. Castle High School. Earned two Masters Degrees in Education in 1996 and PhD in Education Psychology in 1998 from the University of Hawaii. Accepted a position as a Test Development Specialist for Hawaii’s DOE.

Surviving are her husband, Richard D. Gronna, daughters Judith S. Gronna and Jessica M.M. Gronna; parents Dr. Letty Lauffer, Robert Failing, MD and wife, Nancyann; brother, Robert Failing, Jr., sisters, Lee Scheuermann, Margaret Wrath-Esposito, step sister Carol Crego, and step-brother Steven Raber.

A celebration of Sarah’s life will take place at 4:30 PM November 30 at St. Clements Episcopal Church, Honolulu.

Evangeline retired as a Senior Fingerprint Classifier from the Honolulu Police Department. She was a member of the Honolulu Police Department Oldtimers Club; VFW Auxilary 94, Panpango Circle of Hawaii, and Asingan Club of Hawaii.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Johnson; sons, Michael Racelo of CA, Vince Vachon; daughters, Katherine (David) Coffman, Linda (Dan) Short of KY; brothers, Benigno Melendez of Philippines, Eulogio (Linda) Melendez of Philippines; sister, Andrea Ramos of Philippines; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grand-children.
