FRANCES I. DELANY

Frances Imelda Delany of Honolulu, Hawaii died on December 12, 2010. She was born on April 9, 1919 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with master degrees in Music and Latin in 1942. She married Robert E. Delany in 1943 and eventually settled in Scarsdale, New York where she raised seven children (Frances McLaughlin, Mary Anne Lum, Catherine Hutton, Norine Benedetto, Rose Dalton, Robert Emmet Delany and John Delany). In addition to her seven children, she is also survived by a brother, Edward Shea, a sister Dorothy Tracy, 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In 1967 she received her PhD in Educational Psychology from Fordham University in New York. Frances then worked as the Chief of Psychological Services at the League School in Brooklyn, New York and then served as the Director of Psychological Services at the Eagle Hill School in Greenwich, Connecticut. She relocated to Honolulu in 1984 after her husband’s death. She commenced her third career as a citizen activist, joined the Waikiki Neighborhood Board and worked on projects as Saving Fort DeRussy and Saving the Ala Wai and also testified at hearings dealing with condominium issues in Waikiki at the state legislature and City Council. She tried to live her life fully with an abundance of humor, good food, music and sparkling conversation. Her entire family knows that she has rejoined her husband and together they are enjoying the Irish music found only in the friendliest section of heaven. Services and interment will be held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Robert E.
