MARHSHA DICRESCENZO DUFFY

November 6, 1943 – December 12, 2010

Marsha Duffy, age 67, passed away peacefully at home in Palm Springs, California, on December 12, 2010 with her loving husband, Paul Roos, at her side, after a year and a half battle with lung cancer.

Marsha was born in Malden, MA. and raised in Southbridge, MA. After moving to Hawaii in 1966, she worked for United Airlines for 14 years. Other business pursuits included World Travel Consultants and Camp Paradise, a day camp for children of visitors to Waikiki hotels. In 1994, Marsha moved to Northern California where she continued to work in the travel industry.

Following her marriage to Paul in 2000, the couple lived in Vallejo, CA and San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, where Marsha was active in charitable work. The couple moved their winter home to Palm Springs, California in 2007 where they resided seasonally until her passing.

Marsha is survived by her husband, Paul Roos, of Palm Springs and Vallejo, CA; brother, Richard DiCrescenzo of Honolulu; daughter, Amy Ross Sarasvati, and grandchildren, Justin and Heather Rose Tracy of Hopkinton, NH; her cousins David Morse and Amy Morse of CA and Natalie Morse Moore of the Big Island.

No services are planned.

As a descendant of the Bernardone family, whose most notable member was Francis Bernardone, aka St. Francis of Assisi, Marsha dearly loved animals, especially dogs, and asked that any memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Benicia Vallejo Humane Society, www.bvhumane.org

DR. SAMUEL KAMAKAIPOLANI APUNA JR.

Age 81 of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2010.

He was born on July 30, 1929 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Samuel and Lily Apuna. In 1953, he entered the Army and was stationed in Germany and served 3 tours overseas in Vietnam, later becoming the Deputy Comptroller for the US Army Reserves Components Personnel and Administration. While there he was the driving force in the introduction of shrink-wrap for supplies and storage. After 4 years of high school in the National Guard and 23 years of active duty, Sam retired in 1976 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Sam earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Masters in Business and his Doctorate in Business Administration. He taught at the University of Hawaii; was appointed or served on many committees and organizations including: The Advisory Committee to the US Veterans Administration on Native American Veterans, Goodwill Industries Executive Board, National Federation of Business and Professional Women – being the first male member to serve as treasurer on the national board; The National Military Officers Associa-tion of America – helping found additional chapters, The Hawaii State Housing Functional Plan Advisory Committee and The Hawaii State Health Functional Plan Advisory Committee.

Interests included rifle marksman-ship where he was on the Presidents 100, raising lop-eared rabbits for teachers, and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sandi Rosenberry Apuna; from his first marriage; sons, Samuel III and wife Jamie of Nuuanu Valley, HI, John and wife Darlene of Ewa Beach, HI; daughters Melanie Denny and husband John of Peoria, AZ, Melissa Apuna of Kaneohe, HI, and Michelle Apuna of St. Louis, MO along with 11 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one infant daughter, Madeline A. Apuna.

Visitation 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the
Mystical Rose Chapel, Chaminade University, mass at 10:00 a.m., committal service 11:30 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. No flowers.
