ALIPIO L. ABILLANA Alipio “Al” Abillana passed away in Vancouver, WA on January 25, 2011 at the age of 80. Al was born on August 15, 1930 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Al served in the Army during the Korean War. Also retired as an electronic technician from Pearl Harbor after 28 years. He enjoyed golf and all sports. Survivors include his wife Susan Gilbert of WA, two daughters, Audrey (Vince) Salvador and Teresa (Jim) Ogilvie of HI; Grandchildren, Vanessa and Erica Salvador, Bronson Sterling, and Carly Ogilvie. Private family services will be held on 02/18 Friday in Vancouver,WA, and 02/27 Sunday in Honolulu, HI. Arrangements are under the care of Davies Cremation & Burial Services, Vancouver, WA. Arrangements in Honolulu are being taken care of by daughters Audrey and Teresa.

JOHN FAVO ALBIOS

John Favo Albios passed away at 6:06 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in the Life Care Center of Waynesville at the age of 59 years, 8 months and 6 days.

Son of Dionicio and Kathryn (Lo) Albios, John was born June 17, 1951 in Honolulu, Hawaii where he grew up and graduated from high school. John was baptized at Calvary Chapel – Honolulu as a young man and was a member of Calvary Chapel – West Oahu until moving to Missouri.

In 2006, after living in Hawaii all his life, John moved to the Waynesville area to be near his brother Francis and his family. He enjoyed being near his family.

John leaves to cherish his memory his parents: Dionicio and Kathryn Albios of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers: Francis Van Kuren of Waynesville, MO and James Van Kuren of Jacksonville, AR; three sisters: Janine Snedicor of Hawaii, Sharon Mengelsen of Spencer, IA and Thelma Albeso of Haleiwa, HI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 in the First Baptist Church of Waynesville. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

EDWARD R. AOTANI
83, of Honolulu, died at Queens Medical Center on February 11, 2011. He was born in Honolulu to Gendayu and Tami Aotani. Ed graduated from Kaimuki High School and then later from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Architecture. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a 1st Lieutenant. In 1958, he opened his architectural practice, Aotani & Associates. Ed was a recipient of the state’s first Hawaiian Architectural Arts Award sponsored by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, for the Keahole Airport. During his career, he served as the president of the A.I.A, Hawaii Chapter and the Hawaii Historic Preservation Society, and he also served as Chairman of the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation.

In 2004, his painting was selected for the Artists of Hawaii exhibit, sponsored by the Honolulu Academy of Arts, where he won the Alfred Price Memorial Award for Visual Arts.

He is survived by his wife Ethel, son Dean Aotani, daughter Dawn
Aotani, two grandchildren and his sister Jean Kami.

Visitation 3 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, service 4 p.m. Casual attire. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
