FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

DR. KWAI LUM CHOY
DR. KWAI LUM CHOY Age 95, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He received his dental degree from the University of Southern California and practiced dentistry for 58 years. He was well respected and was known for his meticulous work, his gentle touch and his compassionate and caring nature. In 1953, Kwai Lum was called to duty and served as a Major in the Korean War. He was the Chief Dental Officer in charge of the Dental Corp with the 2nd Medical Battalion serving 50,000 men near the front lines. His family was the most important thing in his life and he was devoted to providing them with a good life. His pride and joy were his 7 grandchildren. He led by example and was an inspiration to all of them. Today, Darrett and Aaron are physicians, Andrew and Austin are dentists, Dariann has her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Shayna is an attorney and Kristen has recently been named Hawaii's 2011 State Teacher of the Year. His legacy lives on through them in their personal and professional lives as they share his compassion, his kindness, his work ethic, his belief that living with integrity will bring dignity and respect, and the value of life long education. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years Ruby, sons Dr. Melvin (Vivian), Dr. Steven (Gail), Russell, daughter, Norene (Richard) Lum; grandchildren Darrett Choy, Aaron (Christina) Choy, Kristen (Matthew) Brummel, Andrew (Vanessa) Choy, Dariann (Kent) Fernandez, Austin (Amy) Choy, Shayna (Ian) Lum Robertson; great grandchildren Kainalu Brummel, Raiden Choy, Kyler Fernandez, Daniel Brummel, Camille Choy. He was deeply loved and appreciated by his family and will be dearly missed. He will continue to be a guiding light in all of our lives and will remain forever in our hearts. Private services were held. No monetary offerings.
