Col. Shepler Ward FitzGerald, Jr. (ret.)

Shep FitzGerald of Honolulu, a retired Air Force Colonel, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2011. He was born in Coronado, California in 1918. To start his military career he attended the West Point Academy and graduated in 1939. He went on to receive a Master of Science degree from George Washington University in 1966. He served his county as an Intelligence Officer throughout the United States and Southeast Asia. He was stationed at Hickam AFB from 1960-64 and returned to Hawaii to retire in 1969.

Shep learned to hunt as a young boy in Coronado. Over the years, he hunted and collected guns along with his father Brigadier General Shepler Ward FitzGerald. He was a avdid skeet shooter and won gold metals in the Aloha State Games in 1990 and 1994. He was a great lover of Chinese culture and cooking. Later in his life, he studied with Chef Titus Chen to perfect his culinary skills for entertaining family and friends.

Shep FitzGerald is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Betz and Lynn FitzGerald his granddaughter, Jennifer Betz, great grandson, Luke Betz; step-sons, Bill Logan and Preston & Takako Maginis; step-daughter, Robyn Star Dezendorf and companion Mary Ellen King. He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Potts FitzGerald; his second wife, Sue Patton FitzGerald; his son Shepler Ward FitzGerald III; his grandson, Greg Betz.

Military services will be held at National Memorial Cemetery of the
Pacific on March 16, 2011 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hawaiian Humane Society in honor of all the retired daschund show dogs that Shep and his family adopted over the years.
