Peter (“Dad”, “Papa”, “Uncle Peter”, “Capt. Pete) Kaiu Akiona Jr., age 85, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at his Waimanalo home. He was born on December 7, 1925 to Peter Sr. and Julia Akiona in Honolulu, Hawai’i. A 1976 retiree of the Honolulu Fire Department as a Rescue Captain, he took great pride in beautifying and working his homestead land. He especially enjoyed golfing, traveling and gathering with family and friends.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he is predeceased by his wife Deborah and survived by his 7 children; Byron, Rowen Kekuewa, Aaron, Kevin, Adryn, Peter III, and Debbi Eleneki; 25 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Josephine Crow, Ramona Teves, Lorraine Kaniho, Dorothy Kekuewa, Veronica Samera, Shirley Hering, Paul Akiona and Lorna Terry, nieces; nephews; and friends.

His welcoming arms will be missed. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Hawaiian Memorial Park in Kaneohe, O’ahu. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., services at 12:00 noon. Gravesite services to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the nearby Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.
