Richard Ikaika Hawelu, 80, of Kurtistown, Hawaii, a steelworker, farmer and Marine Corps veteran who served in theKorean War, died in Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. He was born in Kau, Hawaii. He is survived by son Michael; daughter Debbie H. Wellington; hanai sons Keola L.T. and Kaaina L.W.; hanai daughters Kealoha A.L. andKamalu A.E.; brothersLaurence,William and Gabriel; sisters Mae Rose, Martha and Caroline Hawelu, Susanna Houston, Arabetha Abadilla, Beatrice McKay and Nora Jones; a grandchild; and numerous great-grandchildren. Private services and inurnment at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.
