JEFF JAMES AURRECOECHEA

Jeff James Aurrecoechea left this life on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his home in Kona on the big island of HI. Jeff was born May 25, 1952.

He was the son of Louis F. and Janet Aurrecoechea; born in San Jose, California. His schooling was at St Martins and Archbishop Mitty High School.

Life was to be lived and we always kidded that his tombstone would say, “I did it my way!”. His life was full of life and adventure. His profession was in the construction field in managing dry wall installations both in Lake Tahoe and on the island of Oahu in HI. He was an avid reader; surfer; cook; kayaker, photographer; the kind of guy who made his home wherever he was.

Jeff met Pam Sullivan late in his life and knew she was the “soul mate” for whom he had been searching. She brought him great love and life in her home state of Alaska and together they fished and smoked fish and other food stuffs and enjoyed the warmth and love of the people of Port Lions, AK.

Recently they traveled to HI, to see his children and close out loose ends there but they ended up staying and enjoying life in their ‘love nest’ at Kailua Kona.,Hi.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife and soul mate Pam Sullivan Aurrecoechea whom he married on February 14, 2011; his two sons, Jesse Makana Aloha Aurrecoechea, Zak Aurrecoechea, a step-daughter Andrea (Mrs. Michael) Aiona-Shapiro, Granddaughter Aliya Shapiro, Mele Aiona Aurrecoechea, the mother of his sons, his sister Julie Polisso Aurrecoechea, his father Louis and step-mother AnnetteAurrecoechea, several nieces, nephews and one great nephew. CAROL FUMIE ODO

69, passed away April 25, 2011. Linguist, educator, political candidate, businesswoman, program manager, administrator, Carol led her life as a quiet but strong and effective individual. Her friends say she always had a disdain for the status quo and always wanted to make the world better. Carol was fearless, loved just being herself and doing things her way. She has had a deep, never ending effect on the lives of her closest friends, Margo Harris of Charleston, South Carolina, Janet Swift and Carol Kleppin of Kaaawa.

She leaves behind her beloved mother Betty, brothers Franklin and Alan, nieces, nephews and a large ohana of extended family, friends and associates she has worked and played with over the years and throughout the world.

Carol’s interests were as diverse as her attention to detail in her work was passionate. Doing things right paid off in her professional and personal life and inspired her friends to emulate her successes.

An informal celebration of Carol’s life will be held Saturday May 14, 2011 at Carol’s home at 12 noon. Please RSVP to swiftknig@aol.com.

Donations in celebration of Carol’s life may be mailed to the Gloria Kekukahiko Silvira Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 605, Kaaawa, Hawaii 96730. They will be apportioned among the non-profit agencies Carol supported.

Special thanks in caring for Carol during her final years to St. Francis Hospice nurses Donna Sultzer and Jamie Fukui-Chang, and to Elizabeth (“Liz”) Buckingham, renaissance woman and new friend for Carol during her final days. Thanks to nephew Jonathan and spouse Christa for spending time helping immediate family and friends cope with this unanticipated crisis.

All who worked with Carol during this difficult but special time in her life have commented on Carol’s kind nature and on how much they have learned and experienced sharing this time with her.

DAPHNE L. AMCOTTS

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Daphne Amcotts, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 21st 2011, just after her 87th birthday. She was born in Rangoon, Burma in 1924. Daphne was in the Women’s British Royal Navy Service (W.R.N.S.) during W.W.II., in Ceylon. Daphne and her husband Peter, of 53 yrs., met in Ceylon and lived in England, Africa, Canada, Hawaii and California. They shared a lifetime of adventures, a love of books, classical music, sailing and a loving family. Daphne’s husband, Peter, passed away in 2002. She is survived by her daughters Karen and Julie. Her grandchildren Jonathan and Emily, through Karen, and Jessica and Sarah, through Julie, loved her dearly and will treasure the fond memories she gave them all. Daphne also has a brother Gerald in Manhattan, NY. Daphne’s talent and love of the piano and dance was a gift to us all. Many admired her real estate skills as a broker in Hawaii and as an agent in Marin, CA. Daphne exhibited a rare quality of ‘grace’ and was a beautiful and delightful lady. Giving came naturally to her; she gave everything and required little. She had a wonderful combination of warmth, patience and kindness, but was a pillar of strength. Heaven just got a shining star. A memorial took place, Saturday January 22, 2011. Flowers were scattered off of a sailboat on S.F. Bay, on a beautiful sunny day. There will also be a memorial sea scattering off Diamond Head, Honolulu, Hawaii, May 8th, 2011.
