THOMAS KATSUYOSHI NISHIMITSU

Of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died at home on April 23, 2011 at the age of 92. He was born on August 8, 1918 in Honolulu. He was the Kaua’i District Tax Administrator with the State of Hawai’i until his retirement in 1983.

He was preceded in death by his son Peter Pohaku K. Nishimitsu and is survived by wife Peggy Nishimitsu, daughters Lorna Nishimitsu (Keith Aoki) and Holly Nishimitsu (Gerald Alfiler), and grandsons Matthew Isoda and Taylor Alfiler, sisters Doris (Charles) Hoch and Claire (Lloyd) Tanabe, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He served in World War II with the 442nd Regiment, Company D, 100th Battalion in Italy. He was active with the Kapa’a Golf Club, Hawai’i Government Employees Association, the Democratic Party, and All Saints’ Episcopal Church vestry. He enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles, science fiction, being with his grandsons, and frequent trips to Las Vegas.

Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary. Services were held on May 21. Those wishing to honor Thomas’ memory may consider donations to Kaua’i Hospice, 4457 Pahe’e Street, Lihu’e, HI 96766.
