Age 91, of Kualapuu, Molokai, passed away June 1, 2011 at Queen’s Medical Center. Born March 1, 1920 in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Rev. Batara was the pastor for The Way of Salvation Church-Molokai and retired as a mechanic with Del Monte Pineapple Plantation.

He is survived by wife, Marcela C. Batara; sons, Roger (Elizabeth) Batara, Jose (Lei) Batara, Sr., Artoro (Abby) Batara, Anselmo (Rosie) Batara of Molokai; daughters, Linda Batara Olsen, Ana Flor (Randall) Batara-Villa of Maui; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; eight great- great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Age 59, of Kalihi, passed away on 13 May, 2011 in The Queens Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, Oahu, he was a Navy Veteran, Able Bodied Seaman, Waikiki Beach Boy and an avid musician.

He is survived by brothers Steve and Rodney Campos and Joseph Kahihikolo; Sisters Roberta Kahihikolo and Chris Campos.

He was a great uncle, grand uncle, great grand uncle, god father, friend, and Hawaiian man – he will be genuinely missed by his Ohana and his “family of friends.”

Age 91, born in Kau, HI, passed away on May 14, 2011. She is preceded by husband Dr. Richard S. Kotomori, survived by son Amos S. Kotomori, daughter Susan N. Kunisaki (John), grand-daughter Taryn H. Kunisaki, three sisters in Yamaguchi Oshima-Gun Japan, one brother in Rosemead, CA. Tamayo graduated from Nakamura Jo-Gakko in Yamaguchi-shi Japan, held a 4th degree rank in Sogetsu School of Flower Arrangement, nurse while living in Hilo, was an accomplished seamstress, teacher’s aide at Aoi Preschool in Honolulu. Private service held at Hosoi Motuary.

Raymond Mun Kong Lum, 99, died May 15th 2011. He enjoyed a full life marked by generosity and love of people. He survived three wives, Lily Seu Lan Fung, Beatrice Kop, and Yansheng Ma. Beginning in the 1950’s, he published Hawaiian greeting cards, pupule studio cards, statehood first day covers, calendar blotters, and postcards through his printing company, Lum & Feher, Ltd. These items, often modern and often traditional, have circulated throughout Hawaii and beyond. In the late 1950’s Ray Lum operated a fine arts gallery on King St. He also produced prints of restored engravings from Captain Cook’s voyage to Hawaii. In 1999 he and Yansheng Ma Lum published Sun Yat-sen in Hawaii, the definitive account of local fundraising efforts to overthrow the Manchu dynasty. They also started a college scholarship fund in Inner Mongolia. Favorite hobbies were golf, cooking, painting, and travel, especially to China. Mr. Lum is survived by a daughter, Kwei-lin Lum, son-in-law Gregory Urbach, nieces, and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Nuuanu Memorial Park Thursday June 30 at 10:45 AM.

DOROTHY MITSUKO ODA

DOROTHY MITSUKO ODA

Dorothy Mitsuko Oda died peacefully on May 18th in Everett, Washington. Born the youngest of eight children to Namejiro and Ito Miura on May 7, 1926 in Honohina, Hawaii. When she was a month old, the family moved to the McCully neighborhood in Honolulu. Dorothy graduated in 1944 from McKinley High School. While working at Bishop Bank, she met and married John Eichi Oda on May 22, 1948 and had three children. The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage before John passed away in 2007.

After devoting many years as a loving housewife and mother, she returned to the work force. She worked at Kailua High School then transferred to the WIndward District office of the Department of Education where she was a valued and loyal employee until her retirement. Dorothy was a perfectionist in her housekeeping and sewing, and she loved to garden. She was a member of the Tomodachi Club formed by twelve lifelong friends in 1972.

After retiring, the couple moved to the Big Island of Hawaii, where they enjoyed golfing, volunteered at the North Hawaii Community Hospital, and enriched the lives of their two grandsons. They travelled often to Washington state to visit their sons and in 2002, they moved
to Mukilteo, Washington.

Survived by sons Wayne (Edna) and Jeffrey, daughter Donna Max (Tim), and grandsons Samuel and Joseph Max. Dorothy and John’s ashes will be scattered together on a future date in a private family celebration of life. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of the senders choice.
