Helen Ikuyo Ogasawara Nikaido, age 77, of Monterey Park, California, passed away on Sunday, May 15, at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center. She is survived by her loving husband, Ray “Nik” Nikaido; brothers, Herbert (Frances) Ogasawara and Albert Ogasawara; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, here and in Hawaii. Helen was born in Honolulu, HI to Mantoku Ogasawara and Teruyo Shibata, and moved to Los Angeles, CA before settling in Monterey Park. Her love and smile will surely be missed, as well as her inviting home and gardens. Los Angeles services were held on May 24, 2011 at Fukui Mortuary “Chapel in the Garden” with Reverend William Briones of Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple officiating. A private scattering of ashes took place at Redondo Beach, CA. PAUL HARRISON KAEAALII THURSTON

Of Honolulu, died at home on May 29, 2011 surrounded by his family. Born in Honolulu on July 23, 1939 the son of Paul Josiah Thurston and Jane Fenlee Kananimauloa Holt Thurston, he was the youngest of four siblings. An ocean lover, attorney, artist, and tireless advocate for his family, but most importantly a firm but always loving father, he will be fondly remembered, never forgotten, and unbearably missed.

Mr. Thurston is survived by his sons Keone, Jimmy and Keawe Thurston, and three grandchildren. A private ceremony was held in his honor at Tongg’s surf break.
