BETTY MARGUERITE GUNN

Age 91, of Honolulu, died in Arcadia Retirement Residence in Honolulu on July 5. She was born on April 10, 1920 in Crooked Creek, Wyoming of parents Wylie Sherwin and Mildred Huntington. Betty is survived by her son Timothy (Barbara), grandson Patrick, brother Russell, and sister-in-law Helen.

Betty grew up in Wapiti, Wyoming on the Shoshone River, 25 miles east of the entrance to Yellowstone Park. She and her four siblings (Ted, Virginia, Clifford and Russell) helped their father and step-mother (Nina) run The Trail Shop, their motel-restaurant-gift shop in Wapiti. Betty graduated from Cody High School and the Parker Business School in Denver. She married Harold (“Hal”) Gunn in 1941 and they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1947.

Betty and Hal began their life in Hawaii in 1968, after selling their business, Gunn’s Travel Trailers, the first recreational vehicle dealership in New Mexico, founded in 1954. They became residents of The Arcadia in 1988.

Betty was an avid golfer, mostly at the Oahu Country Club where she and Hal were long-time members. She was also an accomplished pianist and a competitive bridge player, having achieved “Life Master” status. A sports enthusiast, she very much enjoyed rooting for Notre Dame football, Atlanta Braves baseball and all the sports teams her grandson played on from grade school through college.
