Age 76 of Honolulu, passed away June 26, 2011 at Straub Clinic & Hospital. She was born February 20, 1936 in Wailuku, Maui.

Loretta was a retired social studies teacher from Kalani High School. She graduated from Baldwin H.S. on Maui and received her undergraduate and Masters degrees from Stanford University. Beloved by her family and friends, she enjoyed dancing hula for many
years with Aunty Leilani Alama.

She is survived by husband, Ronald W. Anderson; son, Craig Anderson (Sharleen); daughter, Lynn Uehara (Garret); sisters, Harriette Atkins of Berkeley, CA, Estelle Bergstrom of Keizer, OR; 5 grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Kaitlyn, Amy and Missy.

Meghanath Nana Bhattacharyya, 89, of Honolulu, a retired licensed vocational nurse, health educator in public health in India and former Freedom Fighter and Sarvodaya worker with Gandhi’s movement for a nonviolent struggle for India’s independence, died in the Queen’s Medical Center. JOSEPHINE BOTELHO DINGEMAN

Of Kailua, a retired longtime docent at Iolani Palace, died Friday in Kailua.

Dingeman, 89, was born in Honokaa. She was a college student studying at the University of Hawaii in 1941, when Pearl Harbor was bombed. After World War II, she married college sweetheart David Dingeman.

They traveled the world together, raising three children along the way: daughter, Jessica, son, David Jr., and daughter Robbie. After a long career in the Army, husband David retired and made good on a promise to return to the Islands and make their home in Kailua.

She was an avid reader, talented gardener, adventuresome cook, and amazing woman. She was a history buff who thrived on her many years of work as a docent at Iolani Palace. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Her husband David died in 1996 and daughter, Jessica Myrabo Thomas, in February 2010. Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers who helped her to live in her home for many years, especially Jennifer Makaehu and Deborah Yau.

She is survived by son David R. Dingeman Jr. of Seattle; daughter, Robbie Gilhooly Dingeman of Kailua; sisters, Vivian Larrere of Kailua and Ernestine Waidzunas of Kaneohe; hanai daughter-in-law, Debbie Carreira Johnson of Honolulu; son-in-law, Jim Thomas of Arizona; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Friday 7/15/11 at St. John Vianney Church in Kailua. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Private scattering of ashes. In lieu of flowers, lei are welcome.

JANICE DARLENE LEIMOMI TAKAKI

66, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Hawaii, passed away July 7, 2011 at her home.

Jan was born January 12, 1945 in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii to James Mitsuo Takaki and Madeline Tsuyako Katayama Takaki.

She attended school in Kapaa on the island of Kaua’i. She received her bachelors degree in speech and drama from BYU-Hawaii. She continued her education at the University of Hawaii and earned her Master’s degree in Communications. She taught at BYU-Hawaii, University of Hawaii and Leeward Community College. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. She loved teaching, tennis, racuetball and swimming.

She is survived by her brother, Larry S. Takaki of Hawaii; Hanai daughter, Hitomi (Jim) Wada of Hawaii; the Stanfield family of Idaho Falls, ID; the Park/Mahiai family; and many more dear and close friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Grace and Lauren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Idaho Falls LDS North Stake Center, 955 Memorial Drive with Bishop Greg Poulter officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 N.
