LORETTA K.U. ANDERSON

Age 76 of Honolulu, passed away June 26, 2011 at Straub Clinic & Hospital. She was born February 20, 1936 in Wailuku, Maui.

Loretta was a retired social studies teacher from Kalani High School. She graduated from Baldwin H.S. on Maui and received her undergraduate and Masters degrees from Stanford University. Beloved by her family and friends, she enjoyed dancing hula for many
years with Aunty Leilani Alama.

She is survived by husband, Ronald W. Anderson; son, Craig Anderson (Sharleen); daughter, Lynn Uehara (Garret); sisters, Harriette Atkins of Berkeley, CA, Estelle Bergstrom of Keizer, OR; 5 grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Kaitlyn, Amy and Missy.

Visitation: Tuesday, July 19th at 5:30pm at Kilohana United Methodist Church in Niu Valley. Services to follow at 6:30pm. Casual attire. No Flowers please.

William Wallace Bartlett

WILLIAM WALLACE BARTLETT

William Wallace Bartlett passed away on July 11, 2011 in Honolulu, Hawaii; he was 74. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 24, 1937 to Marshall and Louise Bartlett.

Bill grew up in Minnesota and then California where he attended John Marshall High School in Los Angeles and graduated from Stanford University in 1959. Bill spent three years in the U.S. Navy as an engineering officer aboard the U.S.S. Ticonderoga (CVA-14). While in the Navy he spent time in Hawaii and fell in love with the islands. While working for the Ventura County, California Planning Department he met and married Joan Blunt in 1965. In 1970 he and Joan moved to Hawaii with their children David, Juliana and Adriana. Bill had been hired by the City and County of Honolulu as a member of the General Plan Revision Program Team under Mayor Frank Fasi. He continued to work for the Planning Department until his retirement in 1994. Bill was devoted to the arts and in retirement pursued his life-long dream of being an artist/painter. His paintings were frequently selected for the Honolulu Academy of Arts, “Artists of Hawaii” exhibitions, where he received the coveted Melusine Award for painting in 1997. His works are owned by the Honolulu Academy of Arts, First Hawaiian Bank and the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.

He is survived by his wife Joan Bartlett, daughters Juliana Nightingale (Trevor) and Adriana Gray (Andrew), and grandchildren Amanda & Christina Nightingale and Thomas & Jillian Gray.

Celebration of Life 4-7pm Sunday, July 17 at Kaneohe Yacht Club. Inurnment 1:45pm Tuesday, July 19 at Punchbowl Cemetery.

ANN MEIERDIERCKS

Longtime Kailua resident and former Aikahi Elementary School teacher Ann Meierdiercks (nee Prinz) died June 17 in Pahoa from pancreatic cancer. She was 82. Ann was born and raised on Long Island, NY, and moved to O’ahu with her family in 1963. She was a lifelong learner and mentor to children, teaching 1st-2nd grades, Sunday school and giving her summers to vacation bible school. The Meierdiercks family are longtime members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kailua and the Kaneohe Yacht Club. Ann survived two previous bouts with breast cancer, and was an active donor to cancer research and humanitarian causes. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Carlyle Meierdiercks; five children, Robert, John, Paul, Michael and Diana; sisters Nancy Budd, NY, and Eleanor Horvath, AZ; and brother, John Prinz, AZ; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends are welcome to a celebration of Ann’s life scheduled for Monday, at 4 p.m., at Kaneohe Yacht Club, 44-503 Kaneohe Bay Drive.
