MARTHA AUSTIN MIST

Martha Austin Mist passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13 with her three children by her side. Martha was born September 19, 1924 to Dorothy and Stafford Austin in Amaula on the Island of Hawaii.

She grew up on the sugar plantations on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, and Oahu. She attended Kaunoa School on Maui and graduated from Punahou School and then Stanford University. After attending secretarial school in Los Angeles, she returned home and in 1947, she married Robert Wakefield Mist. They moved from Oahu to the Big Island where their children were born and spent their early years. After returned to Oahu to live, Martha enjoyed her involvement with the Hawaiian Mission Children’s Society, Daughters of Hawaii, and the Honolulu Garden Club.

She is survived by her children, Robert Stafford Mist, June Mist Sullivan (John), and Dorothy “DC” Mist Eichelberger (Dave), and by grandchildren McKibbin, Wakey, and Bill Mist, Maile and John Sullivan, and Emalia and Davis Eichelberger.

The family is eternally grateful to the staff at the Hi ‘ Olani Care Center at Kahala Nui for their capable and compassionate care over the past few years.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 8:00 AM at the Outrigger Canoe Club, In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hawaiian Mission Children’s Society, The Honolulu Academy of Arts, the Waikiki Aquarium, or the Amy Greenwell Ethno Biological Garden.

JULIA Y. S. JHUN REZENTES

Age 91 was born to Bong Kee Jhun and Mary Santiago on August 22, 1919 in Waikane, Oahu and passed away on July 11, 2011.

She is one of 21 siblings. Although a retired switchboard operator, her true vocation in life was caring for the needs of her family. Julia experienced life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling, reading, singing, dancing, church concerts and musicals. Devoted and dedicated to God, Julia showed God’s love to everyone. She didn’t believe in wordly treasures, as her treasures lay in memories and moments with her family.

She will be forever remembered by her beloved children Josephine F. Yamanaka (Dennis), Judith A. Carvalho, Manuel E. Faustina (Marlene), Edwina M. Yamada, Gloria B. Resmundo (Thomas), Cynthia L. Ornellas (deceased), Minnie R. Bicoy; and Joseph P. Faustina (Trina); siblings, Gertrude LeBron, Peter Jhun (Blossom), Violet Staszkow (Ronald), Marie Ng, Isabella Hong (Stephen), and Betsy Hinau.

Her love and devotion for her 34 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great grandchildren; and, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins will be a legacy that will continue for many generations.

While we will miss hearing her beautiful voice and laughter, she has embedded in our hearts the assurance that we will one day be reunited.
