LEO BERNARD RODBY JR.

On July 4, 2011, our father left this earthly life to join Ke Akua, Iesu & his sons who preceded him-Timothy & Leo III, wife Kuulei, brother Byron & parents, Leo B. Sr. & Carita Fisher Rodby. Born January 12, 1926 in Waialua, Oahu, he attended Wahiawa Elementary, Wahiawa Junior High & Leilehua High School. In 1943, at the age of 17 & while still in high school, he volunteered for service in the Navy. He fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. Upon discharge, he resumed his high school education, graduating from Virginia High School in Virginia, Minnesota, where he also worked in the iron mines. Returning to Wahiawa, he ran his own business for 25 years, Wahiawa Distributors, wholesaler of Primo & Schlitz beers. He then began his second career with the Dept. of Commerce & Consumer Affairs as the Secretary (reconciliatory officer) of the Board of Medical Examiners, retiring in 1991. Dad was a recognized leader in community service. He served as president of the Wahiawa Community Assoc., Wahiawa Hospital Assoc., & Kemoo By the Lake Board of Directors. He was director for the Wahiawa Lion’s Club, Wahiawa Junior Chamber of Commerce & the Rural Branch YMCA Board of Governors. For over 20 years he was the treasurer for Trinity Lutheran Church & School. An active & lifelong democrat, he was elected to the Democratic National Committee. But most importantly he was a good man, a caring & loving father, grandfather, husband, son, brother & uncle. Dad has left behind his children, daughter Leilani Collins, sons Walter (Junko) & Peter (Annie) Rodby; grandchildren Conrad Fenton (Krystyl), Teuila Collins (Jorge Mares), Daniel, Chickasaw, Noah & Kuulei Rodby, Nahe Kukahiwa, James Montalbo; brother Richard (Joan) Rodby; hanai brother Joseph G. H. Dowson Sr.; sisters Linnea Horsnell & Jayne Wakeham; many nieces & nephews. A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, August 13, 4:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1611 California Ave, Wahiawa. Scattering of ashes Sunday, August 14, 12:00pm, Ali`i Beach, Haleiwa.

Born July 20, 1946, in Honolulu, Dennis was a retired Torrance Memorial Medical Center respiratory care practitioner and graduate of McKinley High School class of 1964, USC Medical Center RT Program, and attended El Camino College. He is survived by mother Helen K., sisters Jean M. (Brad) Nago, Carol Y. Teruya, and three nephews. Private service held.
