Frederick L. Helm
June 2, 2011 Frederick L. Helm, 66, of Hilo, a retired Army colonel and veterinarian with the 5th Special Forces Division who served during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm, will be remembered in committal services 10:30 a.m. Friday at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. He died at home. He was also the appointed veterinarian to former President George H.W. Bush. He was born in McCook, Neb. He is survived by son Andrew K.; daughter Natasha K. Sloan; mother Helen; brothers Jim, John II and Mike; and sisters Kathy Brashears, Ceanne Rinehart and Laurie Helm. Contact Natasha Sloan for more information.
