GEORGE EDWARD LIPP

Posted On August 25th, 2011 -

GEORGE EDWARD LIPP

83, peacefully passed away on August 13th, 2011 in Honolulu.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3pm on Saturday August 27, 2011, at the Kaiolena beach right of way in Lanikai and continue on at the Lanikai Community Center until 7pm.

George was born on October 28, 1927 in Spokane, Washington to George F. and Louise Lipp. He grew up in Oregon where he graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in forestry, there he met and married Jane Freeman, a young lady from Hawaii . He tired of tromping around in the wet northwest and went back to school at the University of Oregon receiving a degree in accounting. They settled in Lanikai, Hawaii, where he worked as a CPA in Honolulu and they raised their family. His accounting skills sent him around the world, where he like to be considered one of the ” fathers of tourism in the South Pacific and Asia”. He continued to work and loved doing “taxes” , that is what he was doing on his last day.

After retiring from his Honolulu CPA partnership in 1986 he continued to do consulting work living and traveling throughout the pacific. During this period he lived in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, sometime during his living abroad George and Jane divorced and he married Taofi Atoa. They were living in Sydney and had just completed building a new house in Samoa , George was looking forward to moving there. He always returned to Hawaii, the place that he claimed had “the best climate anywhere”.

George was one of those people that made friends wherever he went, and maintained those friendships for a lifetime. It has been amazing to find how many considered him their best friend.

George is survived by his wife, Taofi Atoa Lipp; his sister Dorothy Porath, his three sons Howard (Sue), David (Kim), Alan (Jill) and their mother Jane Lipp along with 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
