RUSSELL DON LEE “RUSS”

Russell Don Lee “Russ” was 67 years old and lived in Aiea, Hawaii when he was killed, on August 27th, in a motor vehicle (ATV) accident while on vacation in Colorado.

Russ was preceded in death by his father, Albert B. Lee. He is survived by his mother, Ruth (Johnston) Lee; wife, Carol Lee; son, Rick Lee; daughter, Carrie Davis and her husband, Kelly; grandson, Rece Davis; brother, Robert Lee and his wife, Barbara; sister, Patty Hughes and her husband, Dick; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Church of Honolulu, 2500 Pali Highway, on September 22nd, at 4:00 pm.

67, passed away on Saturday, Sept 3, 2011. Retired president of J. H. Buscher Co., Inc., he is predeceased by mother, Glenna (Moore) Buscher Champion, father Williard H. Buscher and stepfather, E. R. Champion. Ward attended Punahou School and graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy.

Affectionately known as “Papa” to many, Ward is survived by children Shannon and son-in-law Chris Iannotta of NJ, Wade and daughter-in-law Mikal (Berry) of AK, Ian and daughter-in-law Tracy (Zimmerman) of Kailua. His pride and joy were his 4 grandchildren, Caylin, Zachary, Lauren and Sierra. Ward also leaves behind brother Harry and sister-in-law Lin (Holland), 3 nieces and a nephew.

77, Co-Founder of T-Shirt Theatre and the Alliance for Drama Education, died peacefully at his home on the Ala Wai, Honolulu, July 24, 2011. Walt was born May 20, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio.

While he has no surviving kin, Walt helped thousands of Kalihi youth brave stage fright as they brought Shakespeare alive to their Farrington peers.

PATRICIA JUNE (ANTHONY) EKSTRAND

82, passed away peacefully at her home in Honolulu, August 31, 2011. Patricia was a native of California and came to Hawaii in 1951 where she met and married the love of her life, Thad Wayne Ekstrand. She spent 22 happy years teaching art at Hanahauoli School before retiring and pursuing her career as a professional artist. She received recognition from the community for her work as an educator as well as for her watercolors and lithographs.

Patricia is survived by her daughter, Tina Whitney (Nathan), two granddaughters, Ysabel and Rachel Whitney, as well as her sister, Mrs. Shirley Swasey.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 23rd, at the Outrigger Canoe Club at 8am. Scattering of ashes to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hanahauoli School at 1922 Makiki Street, Honolulu, HI 96822

93, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 20, 2011, in Cumming, GA. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she moved from Kaneohe, Hawaii to Florida in 2005, then to Georgia in 2007. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Joe; daughter Zillah Souza; and son Gaylord de Mello. Left to cherish her memory are children, Louise de Mello-Benner, Lyla Arline Cahill, Joseph (Kapu) and Kalani Po’omaihealani; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Aulani always made everyone feel welcome and was cherished by numerous friends. She lived out her genuine Christian faith by always embracing everyone around her through her kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity. Aulani’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at Hawaiian Memorial Park in Kaneohe.
