Former Honolulu resident and long-time pastor of Kaimuki Christian Church (KCC), Harold E. Gallagher, 85, died August 13, 2011.
Born in 1926 in Kansas, Gallagher moved in 1941 to Calif., from whence he entered the Navy in WWII. After graduating from Pepperdine College, he pastored churches in California for 10 years before serving as pastor of KCC from 1961 to 1993.
Starting with a membership of 36 adults in 1961, KCC experienced steady growth through the years. Gallagher became active in the Kaimuki Business and Professional Association and the East Honolulu Rotary Club. He was an early supporter of Campus Crusade for Christ at the UH, the Good News Prison Ministry, the Hawaii Foodbank, the River of Life Mission and IHS in downtown Honolulu (the later founded by his San Francisco Theological Seminary D.Min. roommate and close friend Claude du Teil).
Other highlights under Gallagher’s pastorate included the founding of Kaimuki Christian School in 1968, the construction of a new worship center and educational wing in 1969, and the sponsorship of the Vietnamese Christian Church in 1984.
Following his retirement in 1993, Gallagher moved to Asheville, NC with his wife, Jone, where they were active at the Blue Ridge Christian church and he served as a driver for Meals on Wheels.
Harold is survived by his son, Mark of Honolulu, his daughters, Carol Jones of Asheville and Sandy Bashom of Kelseyville, CA.; 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service 4:00 pm September 24 at Kaimuki Christian Church. Inurnment at Punchbowl September 26 at 11:30 am.

Age 99, of Mililani, Hawaii, passed away September 2, 2011 in Iowa. Born September 30, 1911 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Moiliili School and Kamehameha School for boys, graduated Class of 33′. Previously worked for the Oahu Sugar Plantation, Federal Government and Kukui Gardens. John and Fanny Lai Kau owned and operated the Waipahu Tavern
for many years. Preceded in death by his wife Fanny A.Y. Pang Lai Kau.

He is survived by daughter, Terry W. (Gary L.) Rogers; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

Carolyne Robinson Lazar, 46, of Haleiwa, went to be in the presence of the Lord on August 18th, 2011. She was the originator of Coffee Gallery and was a graduate of the University of Hawaii. She was born in Tucson, Arizona and a resident of Haleiwa since 1987.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Waialua Comm. Assoc. (Haleiwa Gym) on Sept. 25th between 2pm & 6pm.

Age 77, of Miles City, passed away suddenly on his ranch as a result of an ATV accident.

Bill was born in 1933, the son of Ralph and Mildred (Massey) Swan. Bill attended the University of Maryland and the Naval War College. After retiring as a Captain in the U.S.N., he went on to pilot ships in both Hawaii and Alaska. Finally, trading in a life at sea, he followed a lifelong dream of ranching in Montana.
Bill had a thirst for knowledge and a love for learning. He could beat anyone at Trivial Pursuit and always had a crossword or Sudoku puzzle going. He had a passion for baseball, whether it was live, on T.V. or fantasy. Bill was an avid poker player who traveled and was “all in” at many poker tournaments, but what he loved most, was spending time feeding and entertaining family and friends.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Rebecca and son-in-law Shawn Wiesz of Kapaau, Hawaii, sons, Hank Swan and daughter-in-law Darlene of Anchorage Alaska and Ralph Swan and daughter-in-law Ember of Anchorage, Alaska, his seven grandchildren Jordan, Dylan, Caleb, Reeve, Morgan, Haven, and Pierce, and his sister Jane and husband Frank Ratka of Dunwoody, Georgia.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Burial will follow in the Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Refreshments and a time of reflection will follow at the Stevenson & Sons funeral home.
