Age 58, died @ home September 10, 2011. Awapuhi and her family lived in Waimanalo, she was raised in her early childhood days on Keanae, Maui. She worked as a house cleaner. She loved all things of the Hawaiian Culture. She had such a Beautiful Smile that could Brighten anyones day. “Her family truely misses her and loves her very much”. LCDR ROBERT DONALD GEE,
USN (RET.)

Age 86, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away Sept. 21, 2011 at St. Francis Hospice in Ewa, Hawaii after suffering two debilitating strokes. Born September 3, 1925 in the Philadelphia suburb of Elkins Park, PA, he had a 21 year career as a naval officer with combat service in the Korean War, and also spent several years based in Hawaii where he met and married his wife.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, the former Roberta “Robbie” O’Dare, daughter Katherine Fujimori (Randy) of Moloka’i, and two granddaughters, Puakaliloa Fujimori and Kaha’owai’olu Fujimori both currently in college and residing in Las Vegas, NV.

After retirement from the Navy in 1963, he returned to the world of academia and, after earning his Masters of Business Administration degree, worked in the College of Business as an Undergraduate Advisor in the Dean’s Office and as an Accounting instructor.

Among his hobbies were volunteer work teaching “Fishy Facts” to visiting kindergarten classes at Sea Life Park for 15 years, and at the Education Center at Hanauma Bay for 20 years. He was also a great cook and baker, fulfilling requests for his most popular dishes, in addition to bread and Stollen, a German Christmas bread. He always made sure to bring baked goodies to his volunteer friends.

Visitation 1-2 p.m, Services at 2 p.m. followed by military honors, and additional visitation at 3 p.m., on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Borthwick Mortuary, Makai Chapel, on Maunakea St. at Vineyard Blvd. Private parking behind the mortuary is available.

May 21, 1981 – October 8, 2011. Born to Bryan Amona and Cynthia Mooney, Jasmine was raised on the shores of Kawailoa and remained a life-long resident of Kailua, O’ahu. She is the granddaughter of William & Lydia Amona and Robert & Jewell Mooney and younger sister of Kaliko Amona McElheny. Jasmine’s most significant legacy is her daughter, Ka’ula, whom she loves more than anything and will always be watching over.

Jasmine graduated from Kailua High and later earned degrees from UH and Chaminade. She shared her Hawaiian heritage as an educator at Lanikai School, Halau Ku Mana, and most recently Kamehameha Schools. She will be remembered for her smile, infectious laugh, and loyal friendship.
