DR. BERNARD HONG YEE FONG
Dr. Bernard Hong Yee Fong, 90 died on September 11, 2011 in Honolulu. Born February 11, 1921 in Hawaii. Graduated from St. Louis High School and obtained his Bachelors degree at Michigan State University. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree (DMD) at the University of Louisville, Kentucky and set up a dental practice at Moanalua Shopping Center. He married the love of his life, Janet Mew Oi Chun on April 8, 1951. He was a devoted husband and father to his seven daughters and one son. He retired as an Oral Surgeon in 1993 where he began his retired life traveling the world until his wife became ill. For the last 10 plus years, he has been dedicated to his wife's care where she currently resides at Island Nursing Home. While there, he developed a close relationship with staff making him their "Dad of Island Nursing". He passed away peacefully with his wife, children, grand children and his Island Nursing family at his side. He is survived by: wife, Janet; daughters: Charlene Fong Choy, Dr. Darlene Metter , Lisa Fong, Tina Fong, Dr. Lucy Wong , Carole Fong Kutchins , Dr. Janice Fong; son: Dr. David Fong; 17 grandchildren and 1 great grand child; brothers: Dr Henry Fong and Ronald Fong and sisters: Edith Freiberg, Helen Ung and Nellie Jong.
Visitation on October 14, 2011 at 10:30 am at Borthwick Mortuary, Burial at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 pm.
