JASMINE KEALA AMONA

May 21, 1981 – October 8, 2011. Born to Bryan Amona and Cynthia Mooney, Jasmine was raised on the shores of Kawailoa and remained a life-long resident of Kailua, O’ahu. She is the granddaughter of William & Lydia Amona and Robert & Jewell Mooney and younger sister of Kaliko Amona McElheny. Jasmine’s most significant legacy is her daughter, Ka’ula, whom she loves more than anything and will always be watching over.

Jasmine graduated from Kailua High and later earned degrees from UH and Chaminade. She shared her Hawaiian heritage as an educator at Lanikai School, Halau Ku Mana, and most recently Kamehameha Schools. She will be remembered for her smile, infectious laugh, and loyal friendship.

Memorial: Saturday, October 22 at Kailua Beach Park Pavilions. Visitation at noon, services at 1 pm. A paddle-out with release of loose flowers and pa’ina will follow. Parking at Lanikai School. Condolences may be sent to P.O. Box 1073, Kailua, HI 96734.

NICOLETTA “NICKI” LIVINGSTON

Born September 15, 1946, Nicki, a dazzlingly beautiful person inside and out, died peacefully at her Black Point home on October 14th after a brave fight with pancreatic cancer. Nicki was born on Long Island, New York and moved to Hawaii in the early 1970s’. She and her husband Fred became a dynamic team controlling their family of restaurants. Her wonderful hospitality and beautiful face and charm made dining at the Trattoria, Sunset Grill, Don Ho’s Island Grill, Tahitian Lanai, Davy Jones Ribs, Tower Grill, Matteo’s and the Crouching Lion Inn remarkable experiences.

Nicki will be remembered for her gracious spirit and loving affection for her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband Fred; her step children, Aron Livingston (wife Janny) of San Francisco, Ca; Linda Livingston of Ojai, Ca., Charlene Guanzon, of San Diego, Ca.; step grandchildren, Lyle Guanzon (wife Trish) and Ryan Guanzon of San Diego, Ca.; her sister Maria Gittleman (husband Michael) of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; her brother, Bruno Giordano (wife Marcia) of Boca Raton, Fla. and her hanai sister, Paula of Honolulu.

Services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Diamond Head mortuary chapel at 12:00 Noon. Aloha AttireBurial service to follow.

Age 66, of Kapolei, Hawaii, passed away September 23, 2011 in Ewa. Born January 29, 1945 in Waialua, Hawaii. Henry was a former barber at Schofield Barracks. He was a former All Star pitcher with the semi pro Asahi Baseball Team.

FREDERICK SHOJI YOSHIOKA
(1930-2011)

Frederick Shoji Yoshioka, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on August 16, 2011 in La Palma, CA. Fred was the son of Tsunesuke and Tsuruko (Iwahiro) Yoshioka and was born on April 8, 1930 in Honolulu, HI. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1948. He served, with honors, in the Air Force as Airman First Class stationed in Korea and Japan from 1948-1952. Fred married Mildred M. Hino on October 28, 1961 in Los Angeles, CA. He was an avid bowler in both L.A. and Orange Counties. Fred joins their daughter, Rhonda Michelle Matsuo, in heaven and is survived by his beloved wife, Millie, granddaughter, Courtney Matsuo, son-in-law Ricki Matsuo of Elk Grove, CA, his daughter Carol Shimabukuro, grandsons Jake and Bruce and great grandson, Kylen. Fred’s surviving siblings include sisters Ethel Uemura and Ellen Kim and brothers Masato, Nelson, Ronald, and Lawrence Yoshioka, all currently residing in Honolulu, HI. A memorial service is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, 2177 Puowaina Drive, Honolulu, HI 96813-1729.
