FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

JOSEPH IAO OBA
JOSEPH IAO OBA Age 83, of Maunawili, died Oct. 26, 2011. He was born Dec. 10, 1927 in Kalihi to Saichi (Kekuewa) and Elizabeth Iao Oba. He graduated from Iolani School where he played football for Father Bray. He played football during the late '40s to mid '50's for Tommy Kaulukukui both at UH and with the Senior League of Honolulu. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from Korea, Joe earned a BA (sociology & history) and a professional teaching certificate. He was retired from the DOE, having spent many of his 34 years teaching at Aiea Intermediate School. Joe was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucinda Edsman and Loretta Dudoit, and his first wife, Mona Travis and son, Clint Shayne Oba. Joe is survived by wife Linda; sons, Hugh Whitford (Rosa), Saichi (Connie) and Joshua (Jen) Oba; daughters, Huellyn Whitford, Dayna Mora, Anita Kaupiko (Willy), and Dilla Oba (Jeffery Sayles); 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sister, Emogene Martin; cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be held, Nov. 12 (Saturday) at The Cathedral of St. Andrew. Visitation from 1pm followed by services at 2:00pm. Burial private. Aloha attire. Free parking.
