KENJI FURUBAYASHI

Posted On November 19th, 2011 - Honolulu Star-Advertiser

KENJI FURUBAYASHI

82, of Kailua passed away at his home on October 11, 2011. Kenji was born in Fresno, CA on January 18, 1929 and moved to Hawaii in 1931. He graduated from Kaimuki High School and, at the age of 18, entered into a partnership to buy Kilani Bakery in Wahiawa. He, with his wife Yuriko, moved to Kailua in 1952 to establish Craig’s Bakery. Kenji and Yuriko ran Craig’s Bakery for 50 years. Kenji loved his family, community, and his golf. Since joining Mid Pacific Country Club in 1952, he enjoyed many wonderful rounds of golf amongst his many cherished friends. As he would sometimes say “it’s not really the golf but the camaraderie that I enjoy”.

On behalf of Kenji and the entire Furubayashi family we would like to express a big mahalo to everyone who so warmly supported Kenji, Yuriko, and Craig’s Bakery over the past 50+ years.

Kenji is survived by wife Yuriko; children: Craig (Uni), Myles (Clara), Hugh (Bethany), and Candace McCartney (Michael); 4 grandchildren: Jill (Gavin), Jade, Reid, and Lauren; sisters Lillian Asayama, Jane Ishimaru, and Lucy Staruszkiewiez.

Private services were held at Hawaiian Memorial Park on October 20, 2011.
