VIRGINIA “GINNY” ANN KU’ULEIMOMI YAU CHAN HEE

Virginia “Ginny” Hee passed away on November 8, 2011, at St. Francis Hospice. Born on August 11, 1943, in Honolulu, Hawaii, she was raised in Moanalua Gardens and Kaimuki. She graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy and attended the University of Hawaii.

Ginny worked at Punahou School since 1978, first in Cooke Library, ITV, and later as a secretary in the Athletic Office. Although she wouldn’t admit it, she was an accomplished hula dancer known for her graceful movements, especially her lovely hands. Ginny was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Indianapolis Colts, Alabama Crimson Tide, Notre Dame football, Wahine volleyball, Pepperdine men’s volleyball, and Tiger Woods. She attended many high school sporting events and was a staunch supporter of Punahou athletics. Since her retirement in 2008, Ginny and her husband, Bob, spent most of their time visiting their precious grandchildren in California. Ginny, or “Nan” as her grandchildren affectionately called her, did her very best to “spoil” them with her love. Her most cherished moments were when she was with her children and grandchildren.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Robert Hee; daughter, Jana (Timothy Rogers); son, Marc (fiancee Sherrie Takaki); beloved grandchildren, Quin, Margaux, and Chelsea Rogers; brother, Louis Kau (Kathleen); sisters, Claire Ho (Alvin), Catherine Chun-Hoon (Lowell) and hanai sister, Gail Martin; nephews; grandnieces and grand-nephew; and hanai nieces and nephew.

Visitation 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at University of Hawaii Catholic Center (Newman Center). Mass at 11 a.m. Parking at St. Francis High School. Aloha attire. No flowers. Private inurnment.

She is the daughter of Tsurukichi and Tani (Oda) Kayashima. She was a Retired Office Manager for a dental office. Also, an active member of Central Union Church for over 50 years and with the Girl Scouts for over 25 years.

She is survived by her husband Henry Kaoru; son, Ben (Mary); daughters, Pamela Vennen (Dennis), Deborah Hobbs (Ken), Marcy Kawasaki (Mark Morita), Margaret Kawasaki; brother, Benjamin Kayashima; sisters, Sally Otsuji, Christine Romero; grandchildren, Erin Perry, Amanda Morris, Anne Kawasaki, Martha Kawasaki, Valerie Kawasaki, Patrick Haines: Allison Haines, Katherine Haines, hanai grandson, Levi Jackola, Kevin Kawasaki; great grand-daughter, Madison Perry.

After a long struggle with cancer, Pat Waller, with family and friends around went to sleep peacefully 16 November, 2011 and now sleeps until the resurrection.
She is a Navy junior who traveled with her parents [the late Cdr. Leroy M. Scott, (SC),USN(Ret) and Florence R. Scott] all over the United States and the Territory of Hawaii. She attended 27 schools through the ninth grade. A lover of literature, a short story writer and poet, she had pieces published in both US and British literary Journals.
She met her husband [Capt. Edmund M. “Sonny” Waller, Jr. (SC), USN (Ret)] at Roosevelt High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, from which they both later graduated. He chased her until she caught him. They were married on Dec. 20, 1952, 5 days after he received his diploma from the University of North Carolina, and his Navy commission.
A devoted mother and loving wife, Pat accompanied her husband to all points of the US as well as 3 years in Naples, Italy. She lived in the Washington, DC area (Silver Spring, MD/Vienna, VA) for 20 years, prior to spending her remaining 19 years in Charlottesville, VA.
She is survived by her husband, her mother of Rockledge, FL, and her five children (Andrea Musher, Pittsburgh, PA; Jo Zukas, Jeffersonton, VA; Kathy Harper, Florence, CO; Scott Waller, Mundelein, IL; and Stewart Waller, Durham, NC) plus eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
