Age 70, of Waipahu, Hawaii, passed away November 3, 2011 in Aiea. Born September 13, 1941 in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. Retired from Hawaiian Housewares. Member of United Filipino Council of Hawaii and Oahu Filipino Community Council.

He is survived by wife, Josefina “Josie” Alcain; daughter, Annaliza (Anthony) Miyashiro; son, August Alcain; sister, Cora (Bert) Canda of Waukegan, Illinois; nieces & nephews.

Victor Cole, 87, of Manlius and Honolulu, passed away on Tuesday. Born in New York City, he graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, where he was the President of the senior class, and the College of Engineering of New York University, where he was the President of two honor societies. He worked for Carrier Corporation for 38 years occupying a number of positions including Vice President in charge of Asia and the Pacific Region. His interests included sailing, history, woodworking, the outdoors, astronomy, and American, Asian, and nautical art and antiques. He was active in numerous organizations, including the Oklahoma City Boat Club, the Willow Bank Yacht Club, the Onondaga Historical Society, the Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, the Everson Museum, the Gem and Mineral Club of Syracuse, the Early American Industries Association, the Institute for Astronomy of the University of Hawaii, the Waikiki Aquarium, the Society of Asian Art of Hawaii, and the Honolulu Academy of Arts. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Marie Cole, in 2010.

Survivors: A son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lois Cole of Stonington, CT; a sister, Caryl Blackfield of Foster City, CA.

Services: At the request of Mr. Cole there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Phyllis Diane Maler, of Longmont, died November 3, 2011 in Longmont, Colorado. She was 76 years old.

Phyllis was born on March 7, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Herman and Lillian (Lazaroff) Schneider.

Phyllis lived most of her life in Honolulu, Hawaii with her husband Ned and daughters Eve and Beth. In Honolulu she became an entrepreneur with The Trunk, the first large-sized women’s specialty clothing store in the state, in 1971. Phyllis moved to Longmont in 2001 to be near Beth and her family, in the process becoming a Mah Jongg enthusiast. From her leadership of the Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood in Hawaii to her volunteer work at the Longmont Senior Center, she formed strong lifelong friendships, contributed to the community, and inspired fierce loyalty from all who met her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ned Joe Maler.

Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Eve Maler and Beth Ferreira, and two grandsons, Jacob and Joe Ferkatch.

A memorial service was held on Monday, November 7 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont. A memorial gathering will also be held in Hawaii at 5:30pm on Sunday, December 4.
