Robert “Bob” Van Niel, 89, of Honolulu, a retired University of Hawaii professor of history and an Army veteran during World War II, died in Straub Clinic & Hospital. He was born in Cleveland. He is survived by wife Eloise, son Anthony, daughter Penelope and three grandchildren. Services pending.
