GWENDOLYN STERLING

A funeral Mass will be held for Gwendolyn Miriam Sterling, 82 of Chico, CA June 7, 2011 at 10A.M. at St Augustin of Canterbury Anglican Church. She passed away on Friday June 3, 2011 in Chico, CA.

Gwen was born May 7, 1929 to Jack and Constance Botelho in Honolulu, Hawaii. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947 and in 1952 she graduated from the University of Hawaii. Gwen was employed by Hawaiian Airlines and Central Union Church Preschool before going to work in Dean’s office at Punahou School. After retiring she relocated to Chico to be near family.

Her survivors include her husband James V. Sterling Jr. of Chico; two sons James “Kimo” (Carolyn) of Colorado, Jack (Darien) of Chico; two daughters, Gayle (Tony) Souza of Wahiawa, Hawaii, Pamela (Bill) Boker of O’Fallon, MO; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Raymond Kealohaokalani Lui, also known as Raymond K. Pae, 91, of Kailua, passed away on June 1, 2011in Kailua Hospice Care Home. He was born on February 12, 1920 in Honolulu Hawaii, and graduated from McKinley High School, class of 1939. Former employee of Hawaiian Dredging, Hawaiian Water Chlorination, and a retired employee from Board of Water Supply 1949-1974. He is survived by his children, Joseph-Raymond K. Lui (Agnes), Henry C. Lui (Sharon), Violet Lui-Frank (David), Isaac S. Lui (Suzanne), Adam P. Lui (Anna), Allan Lui (partner, Kehau), Helen Stone, mother of his children, Dawn Lui, mother of three of his grandchildren; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. Our Daddy/Grandpa loved us and we loved him right back. Services to be held at Borthwick Mortuary, Nuuanu on June 11, 2011. Visitation from 10:30 to 12:30. Services from 12:30 to 2:00. GEORGE “SCOTTY” BRAUN

Lifelong Punchbowl resident, George Braun, aka Pops and Poppi, 76, went to heaven on May 30, 2011, at home with his family by his side. He was met in heaven by his grandparents, father, brother, and dog Beauty. He was born in Honolulu on June 25, 1934, to David and Elsie (Lemes) Braun. He was a proud member of the 1952 class of Roosevelt High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1955 was employed at Hickam A.F.B. and remained there as a warehouse foreman until his retirement in 1990. In October 1957, he met the love of his life Winona Kuulei Kekona, and they were married on May 3, 1958. George was a devoted father to his 3 children and would do anything for them. He was an avid mountainball player known for his sky high pitching, and also competitively played bowling and horseshoes. He was a dedicated member of the Ancient Order of Foresters, Court Camoes #8110, where he was known for his ‘true stories’. George was most happy spending time at home with his family, telling jokes and eating sweets. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren always put the biggest smile on his face. He loved his family and always said yes to anything they asked of him. Torayo Nomura of Honolulu, 95, passed away peacefully at home on June 1, 2011. Born on Jan. 5, 1916 in Honolulu, she worked for Malihini Sportswear as a seamstress and was an active member of Nichigobu Ministry of Nu’uanu Congregational Church. She was preceeded in death by her daughter, Francine
(Alan) Doi, and grandson, Jeremy Doi, her parents and all of her 9 siblings.

She is survived by her loving husband of 69 1/2 years, Walter Tetsuo Nomura; son, Andrew (Nora) Nomura; daughters, Faith (John) Burgess of California and Anita Steigerwald; son-in-law, Alan Doi; 9 grandchildren: Christina (Matt) McMichael, Johanna (Joe) Hart, David Burgess, Micah Steigerwald, Peter Steigerwald, Ryan Nomura, Evan Nomura, Jessica Doi & Amanda Doi; and 4 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sat., July 2, 2011 at Nu’uanu Congregational Church, U.C.C. Visitation at 3:00 pm. Service at 4:00 pm. Casual attire; no flowers, please.
