He did well in school, and really liked math. This interest lead him into becoming a Nuclear Engineer. In 1956 he married his best friend and love of his life Sherry McDonald. They Settled in San Jose, California and in 1957 their first son Rick was born. In 1960, their second son Scott came into the family. Leo worked hard and they were able to purchase a house in Fremont, California. Where they lived until the summer of 1967.
Leo had put in for a job, and out of 10,000 applicants, was chosen, so off to Hawaii they moved. In 1971 Leo applied for a job with the Water Department on Maui and was chosen as the “Token Haole”. So once again the family moved. It was soon decided that Maui was not the place for a family use to a faster paced lifestyle. Leo applied for jobs back on Oahu and was able to move the family back in 1973 after being hired by the Dept. of Transportation, Highways Division as a project engineer. When he retired in 1995, Leo had worked his way up to the District Engineer position and was the supervisor for all the road crews and projects.
His last project was the H3 and tunnels. After retirement, Leo enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting family as well as far away countries. He loved to eat his way around the world. He also enjoyed cooking, especially “Sherry’s Spaghetti Sauce”.
Leo remained active right up until he fell and broke his hip, and even then he was working very hard on getting better and returning home so he could take Sherry to Australia. Unfortunately on November 25, 2011, he went to sleep in death.
Leo humbly served as a Ministerial Servant in the Waimanalo Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he actively preached and believed that soon sadness and death would be no more. Revelation 21:4.
