Donald Hary Gordon

DONALD HARRY GORDON
April 22, 1925 – March 28, 2011

Was born in Brookline, MA. He graduated with a degree from Princeton University, where he majored in the Latin classics, and received his law degree from Harvard Law School. After graduation, he practiced law in Boston for several years, and then, after earning an LLM with a specialty in tax law from Harvard, embarked on a lengthy teaching career. His main service was as a tax professor at the Wayne State University School of Law in Detroit, MI, and from 1975 to 1980 he also served that school as Dean. Gordon had a long and fruitful association with Hawaii, being one of the founding professors at the University of Hawaii’s Richardson School of Law during 1973-75. During his service as dean at Wayne State, he was also a co-founder of the Law Library Microform Gonsortium (LLMC), an international cooperative of libraries, headquartered on the campus of the University of Hawaii’s Windward Community College, that is dedicated to scanning law libraries and making them available online. After finishing his service at Wayne State in 1990. Gordon returned to his beloved Hawaii to spend his retirement years.

He is survived by his wife Irene Rizkallah Gordon, of Honolulu, a daughter, Katherine S. Gordon, of Boston, and a stepson, Stephen F. Greaves, of Los Angeles.

Funeral Arrangements are private. Those wishing to make donations in Professor Gordon’s memory are requested to direct them to the Law Library Microform Consortium, P.O. Box 1599, Kaneohe, HI 96744, where a permanent online memorial in his name is being organized.

Yukio Gotanda

YUKIO GOTANDA

Passed away at the age of 88. He was born on the island of Kauai, was Class President of Waimea High School, and later served in the Military Intelligence Service in World War II. He received his B.A. from the University of Hawaii, his M.S.W. from the University of Michigan, and his LL.B. from the University of Wisconsin. He was committed to public service. He was the Director of the Oahu Division of the Honolulu Community Action Program, worked for the Hawaii Legislative Reference Bureau, taught statistics at the University of Hawaii, and spent most of his career at the State of Hawaii Department of Social Services and Housing, where he oversaw the Administrative Appeals Office and was an administrative law judge.

He is survived by his wife, Masae; son John, wife Brenda and children William and Kayla; and daughter Misa Zane and son Robert (Robbie).

He will be laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Services: Saturday, December 17th @ Hosoi Mortuary. Visitation at 3:00p with services @ 4:00p.
