SISTER MARIE THERESE HICKEY, SS.CC.
79, of Honolulu, died January 11, 2012 at the Queen's Medical Center. She was born Therese Marie in Honolulu on September 30, 1932, attended St. Anthony School (Kalihi Kai), St. Theresa School and Farrington High School. She worked briefly as a secretary for St. Patrick (Kaimuki), then joined the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts in 1952. For 32 years, Sister served in school and parish ministry at St. Patrick and Maria Regina, Garden, Ca. primarily teaching Second Grade as well as coordinating the religion program. She prepared her pupils in school and in the parish CCD classes to receive their First Communion. In 1995, Sister was assigned to St. Anthony Retreat Center, Kalihi, where she provided hospitality for retreatants and distributed altar bread to parishes. Sr. Marie Therese is survived by sister, Esther (Solomon) Paakaula; hanai brother, John Gomes; hanai sister, Marie Olsen of Maui, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
