Dick, retired President of Kemoo Farm Restaurant, was born to Leo and Carita Rodby in Waialua,TH. The Rodby family owned and operated Kemoo Farm Restaurant since the mid 1920’s.

He graduated from Leilehua High School in 1948. After graduation Dick served in the army. He graduated from Woodbury Business College and San Francisco Hotel and Restaurant College and worked at the Santa Barbara Biltmore Hotel and The Clift in San Francisco before returning to Hawaii to manage Kemoo Farm Restaurant.

Award winning Kemoo Farm Restaurant was a refuge where time stood still and the gracious Aloha of old Hawaii resided. Kemoo Farm was known for its sizzling steaks, Rainbow Trout, Macadamia Nut Cream Pie, Mai Tai’s, The Hawaiian Happy Cake and the music of Charles K L Davis.

The family sold Kemoo Farm in 1992 and he concentrated on the Happy Cakes until 2002 when he retired completely. His professional achievements include several terms as President of The Hawaii Restaurant Association and a 12 year Director on the National Board, Board Member of the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame, Outrigger Canoe Club, Central Union Church, Director Emeritus of the Arizona Memorial Foundation at Pearl Harbor.

Dad, you gave us a wonderful life that cannot be surpassed. You did your best, loved your wife, your children and your family and held a deep love of Hawaii and her people. You were as gentle as you were gracious, patient as you were kind and a true gentleman.

Dick is survived by his wife Joan Martin Ballentyne Rodby, son Scott Ballentyne (Robin), daughters Nancy Ciacci (Lane “Bobo” deceased) and Robyn Rodby Shaw, grandsons Sean and Ian Ballentyne, granddaughter Jennifer Ciacci, great grandson Kekoa Ciacci-Brown, sisters Jayne Wakeham and Linnea Horsnell, hanai brothers Elmer Manley and Joseph Dowson, numerous nephews and nieces.
