TROY D. GRIFFIN JR., LT. COL, USA (RET.)
TROY D. GRIFFIN, JR., LT. COL. USA (RET.) Age 65, of Mililani, Deputy Public Affairs United States Army Pacific, died of Brukitt Lymphoma Cancer Sunday, March 18 with his wife at his side. Mr. Griffin grew up in San Antonio, TX and graduated Trinity University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He was commissioned a second Lt. in the Air Defense Artillery in 1969 and later became a Public Affairs Officer. Mr. Griffin graduated with honors in German Studies from the Defense Language Institute. After retiring from the Army in 1989 Mr. Griffin continued his work in Public Affairs as a Department of Defense Civilian. He served as the deputy director executive services for United Sates Army Europe in Heidelberg, Germany and the chief of protocol for the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Mr. Griffin deployed multiple times as part of Task Force Eagle to Bosnia-Herzegovina as the chief of protocol for the 1st Armor Division and also served as the chief for the joint visitors bureau for Multinational Division (North). His military and civilian awards include The Legion of Merit Medal and the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. In 1991 he married his wife Annemarie E. Newman from Oppenheim, Germany. Mr. Griffin was known or his love of life and of animals, especially his four dogs and four birds. He loved riding his motorcycle and sailing his boat, "The Oasis" with Annemarie off the coast of Oahu. He loved to sing and belonged to several choirs during his life and sang in numerous concerts. He is survived by Annemarie, his daughter Marlies Blackford, son-In-law Brad, and grand-daughter, Annalies. A memorial ceremony will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday April 3 at Main Post Chapel, 790 McCornack St., Schofield Barracks Hawaii.
