PATRICIA ANN FREITAS

Posted On April 13th, 2012 -

Patricia Ann Freitas
September 16 1939 – March 29, 2012

Our beloved and treasured Patty went home to be with The Father on March 29, 2012- after a 20 year fight with cancer. Her family surrounded her in her final moments.

Patricia was born and raised in Kailua to William & Minnie (Bessa) Phillips Sr. At an early age, her mother enrolled her in hula classes taught by Auntie Bella Richards.

As one of Auntie Bella’s original students, she uniki after almost twenty years and continued her hula legacy through her daughter, while still being involved with Bella Richard’s Hula Studio as a halau mother for approximately another twenty years. Evenwhile bed ridden, Patty loved Hawaiian music and enjoyed dancing hula noho.
Patty was a member of the first graduating class of Kailua High School in 1957. She was a very good student and was a song leader and majorette.

After graduating from high school she went to work for Piggly Wiggly Markets then moved on to Welding and Industrial Products and then to Pflueger Honda as a cashier. After a few years she joined AngloAmericanAuto Auctions. Her last employment was with Aloha Auto Auctions where she handled automobile repossesions.

All through her adult years Patty played in the volleyball and basketball leagues sponsored by the The Church of Latter Day Saints, Waimanalo Ward and later played shortstop in the mixed softball league at Keolu Park. She had to give up the sports when she blew out her knee. Patty loved sports, spending many evenings watching all the televised UHsports with her husband.

Even after being diagnosed with cancer she and her husband traveled as much as possible. The Amazon River, Machu Picchu, China, Korea, Malaysia, Kuala Lampur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea, and even crossed the outback from Alice Springs to Darwin. She also took several cruises and enjoyed the trips tremendously. She loved to travel and always talked about all the funny things that happened while on the trips.

Patty loved her family immensly. Shewas especially fond and proud of all her grandchildren. All the boys were all asked the same question every time they visited: “When are you going to cut your hair.” It became the family joke.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Raybern Freitas Sr., Daughter, Raylene Brede (Robert). Sons Raybern Jr. and Raynard (Cimeron). Seven grandchildren, Ka’imihanano’eau Brede, Kauhinuiakama Brede, Keaniani Moses-Freitas, Kauioliko Moses-Freitas, Slade Freitas, Stone Freitas, and Hunter Freitas.

Brother Franklin Phillips (Natalie), Grand Aunts Victoria Agenbroad, Dorothy Miller, Grand Uncle, Herbert Bessa, nine nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Patty was loved by all who met her.

Visitation at 9 AM, services at 10:30 A M, Tuesday April 17. Causual attire, lei accepted.
